Last Sunday we had the great joy of blessing our new (temporary) bell tower and its bells. Made entirely of reclaimed wood by our skilled carpenters, Menuiserie Pierlot of Brignols, and at their initiative, it now supports three bells (two which we purchased in 2020 and one donated by Menuiserie Pierlot). All three bells are in harmony, allowing for different bells to be rung for different liturgical offices and for combinations of bells to be rung according to the rank of the liturgical day or feast. (The brethren do seem to enjoy ringing them!)
They now serve as the voice of God calling us to prayer seven times a day and once at night: “At the time of the divine Office, as soon as the signal has been heard, let them abandon what they have in hand and assemble with the greatest speed, yet with gravity, so that no occasion be given for levity. Let nothing, therefore, be put before the Work of God.” (Règle de Saint Benoît, Ch. 63) Comments are closed.
