Recently we commissioned the renowned artist Daniel Mitsui to produce a drawing of the Benedictine concept of 'pax inter spinas' - of finding peace amidst thorns - for the exclusive use of the monastery. We are particularly delighted with the resultant work, pictured above.
Daniel Mitsui writes: "This emblem combines the word PAX written in a medieval display script (usually called Lombardic) a fruited sprig of an olive branch (which has been a symbol of peace since the days of Noah) and two branches of thorns woven into a crown. It illustrates the Benedictine motto Pax inter spinas, peace among thorns."
